What is on the mind of Jay?

Read on and you still won't know - but the journey, yes the journey.

tickling my cochlea today

Smokin' Joe.

Early morning drives are a fine time for quiet, pensive music. But today? Joe Walsh, early, with James Gang, loud.

I just wanted to thud through the morning.

STOP

I've known this song and this band for many years, since my youth. Hearing them now I am struck by Joe's guitar playing: his riffs were always crisp and catchy, and his solos....never showy really, but each crafted for its song, in fact in that way his solos were very much like his riffs themselves. Just a lot of really cool playing.

"Your Feet Must Move Now." Says Joe's guitar.

Another thing: Jimmy Fox on drums. Okay: Dayum, that boy was funky! He hit hard, but there was a bounce to his playing, a groove that JB himself would have enjoyed.

So now in the afternoon, as is so often the case, my morning muse is tugging at my mind and insisting that I get out an instrument. Experiment with the reverberations in my head. I may play some actual Joe licks. I may not: often in such a mood I will just channel the inspiration. Maybe take a chord voicing and move it around. Maybe choose an infectious groove and make a new melody for it. Sing a few words which my mind has associated with some wordless pitches.

Or I'll just close my eyes, clear my mind and play.
